Frequently asked questions
A performance advisory group (PAG) meeting is a formal step in the ICB's performance management process at which the ICB sets out its concerns about a pharmacy's contract compliance and invites the contractor to respond. Attendance is important — failure to engage with the PAG process can lead to escalation. TI Pharmacy Consultancy attends PAG meetings with you and helps prepare your response to the ICB's concerns.
If the ICB is not satisfied following a PAG meeting or compliance notice, it can escalate to formal contract management proceedings, which may ultimately lead to a notice to remedy or, in the most serious cases, removal from the pharmaceutical list. TI Pharmacy Consultancy advises at every stage and coordinates with legal advisers where formal action is a real risk.
NHS contract performance management and GPhC fitness to practise proceedings are separate regulatory processes, but in serious cases they can run in parallel. An ICB that has concerns about a pharmacy may also notify the GPhC. TI Pharmacy Consultancy advises on the regulatory landscape and helps you manage both processes where necessary.
Do not ignore it. The ICB's performance management process has defined steps and timescales, and failure to respond can be treated as non-engagement, which may accelerate escalation. Contact TI Pharmacy Consultancy as soon as you receive any performance-related correspondence — early advice is always more effective than responding to an escalated situation.
Yes. TI Pharmacy Consultancy advises community pharmacy contractors in Wales facing performance action from local health boards. The Welsh performance management framework has similarities to the English process but differs in some procedural respects. We advise specifically on the Welsh framework for Welsh contractors.
